Custom and self build homes are a struggle. People who want
to build struggle, councils struggle. We work hard to help self
and custom build to be a positive approach to housing rather

understanding how Self Build Registers work and it means making
sure that your planning application or appeal has the best chance
of success.

Planning applications are expensive. If the development
you want has no chance of being granted, you want to know
that before you start. We can prepare a quick and low cost
development appraisal to give you a good idea of the odds. Only
if we think there is a good chance of success will we recommend
making that planning application.

Of course, we can also prepare and manage your planning
application, to give it the greatest chance of success. We are a bit
choosy about what we do – we support sustainable development
in line with our general approach. But, where we think your
development will bring benefits to the area we will pursue a “yes” all
the way to appeal if we have to.

Sometimes, just policy on its own won’t work in bringing forward
sustainable development. You may need a delivery strategy, an action
